The Probation Service brought Munir Ghariani’s case back before Judge Melanie Greally at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 28 June 2017 because he had failed to meet probation officers. Judge Greally adjourned the matter for two weeks and said he would be jailed if he did not attend two weekly meetings in that time.
Ghariani had pleaded guilty to robbing a woman on Granville Road, Cabinteely. The robbery took place on 21 March 2016.
In May 2017, Judge Greally imposed a four-year sentence, backdated to 19 May 2016 to take account of time spent in custody, and suspended the balance. She warned that she would have “no hesitation” in reactivating the three-year sentence if he broke the conditions of his release.
Probation officer Michelle Richardson said she had not seen Ghariani in person since his sentencing and that he needed to present himself regularly to the Probation Service. Defence counsel Michael Bowman SC said Ghariani had a background of difficulties but had been taking his anti-psychotic medication.
The court also heard that Ghariani was charged with breaches of the Sex Offenders Act arising from alleged failures to notify authorities of his address. The proceedings were reported on 28 June 2017.
