Monika Matracka has pleaded not guilty to murdering Michal Rejmer at the Central Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 13 February 2017. The charge concerns the alleged murder of her former partner at their home at The Pines, Briarfield, Castletroy, between 8pm on 30 December and midnight on 31 December 2015.
Opening the prosecution case the previous week, Paul Carroll SC told the court that Ms Matracka had told gardai she stabbed her housemate and former partner in self-defence.
Detective Garda Pat Whelan gave evidence about an alleged admission after a body was found in the back garden. He said Ms Matracka became upset while sitting in a patrol car and said: “I did it. It was me.” The court heard that, when he asked her to clarify, she said: “I killed Michal.”
Detective Sergeant Ivan Muldoon, who was also present in the patrol car, agreed with Mark Nicholas SC, defending, that Ms Matracka had healing cuts to her left hand and that a doctor was called while she was at Henry Street garda station.
The trial continued before Mr Justice Paul Butler and a jury of six men and six women.
