Michael Taylor refused leave to appeal murder conviction

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Michael Taylor was refused leave to appeal his murder conviction by the Supreme Court on 12 October 2018. He had been convicted by a majority jury verdict at the Central Criminal Court and received the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment for the murder of Paul Kelly in Clontarf, Dublin, on 6 April 2007.

The Supreme Court held that the proposed appeal raised no matter of general public importance and that leave was not required in the interests of justice. The Court of Appeal had previously dismissed Taylor’s conviction appeal on 16 March 2018.
