By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Michael Murray’s sentence for rape, attempted rape, oral rape, aggravated sexual assault, child abduction, threats to kill or cause serious harm, false imprisonment and theft was increased from 15 years to 19 years by the Court of Appeal on 3 November 2017.

The offences occurred at a Dublin apartment on February 12th and 13th, 2010, according to the report.

Murray had denied the charges but was found guilty on all counts by a unanimous jury verdict in the Central Criminal Court.

Mr Justice George Birmingham, sitting with Mr Justice Alan Mahon and Mr Justice John Edwards, said the original sentence was inadequate; the court noted the absence of mitigation and substituted 19 years to date from the same date.
