This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Michael Finlay and Dean Byrne's five-year sentences for firearm and ammunition possession were upheld by the Court of Appeal on 24 February 2017.

The men had been convicted at the Special Criminal Court on 16 June 2016 and sentenced on 1 July 2016 to concurrent five-year terms for possessing a firearm and ammunition. The Court of Appeal refused the Director of Public Prosecutions' application to review the sentences as unduly lenient. The offences followed a surveillance operation at a location in Tallaght on 5 June 2014, where a loaded pistol was found.
