This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Michael Feichin Hannon’s sexual assault conviction was overturned by the Court of Criminal Appeal, which declared a miscarriage of justice, reported on 27 April 2009. He had been convicted in 1997 of sexually assaulting a ten-year-old girl and received a suspended sentence. The court described him as an innocent man.

The conviction was overturned after the girl admitted nine years later that she had made up the allegation. The court granted Mr Hannon’s application for a miscarriage of justice certificate, despite opposition from the State.
