Retired Assistant Commissioner Michael Feehan told the Disclosures Tribunal in Dublin Castle on 18 February 2022 that he considered a disciplinary inquiry into Sergeant William Hughes compelling.

Feehan said he recommended that the matter proceed to a disciplinary inquiry after a fact-finding exercise concerning what Gardaí knew about threats to Baiba Saulite before her murder. Hughes alleged that he was targeted after raising concerns about failures in Garda investigations; Feehan denied targeting him.

This case may have concluded differently. The outcome has not yet been confirmed by a public source we could find.
