This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Martin Gallagher was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 10 March 2021 for assault causing harm and false imprisonment. The offences happened at Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin, on 6 January 2020, when he attacked a woman and put her in the boot of his car. Gallagher had pleaded guilty to both offences.

The court heard that Gallagher grabbed the woman while she was walking, repeatedly tried to close the boot on her legs and then drove away after throwing her against a wall. Judge Martin Nolan rejected Gallagher’s explanation that the incident was a prank. The woman later described scars, nightmares and continuing fear after the attack.
