Mark Kavanagh was jailed for five years and three months after attempting to ram a garda car during a high-speed Dublin chase and pleading guilty to burglary offences. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard he had 168 previous convictions. Judge Orla Crowe imposed a global sentence of six years and nine months, suspending the final 18 months on strict conditions.
The court heard that Kavanagh drove erratically and reached 120km/h during the chase on 28 April 2024. The car later struck a kerb and lost a wheel. He also pleaded guilty to burglary offences on two other dates in 2024, including a burglary at the home of an 85-year-old man living alone. The judge backdated the sentence to when Kavanagh entered custody in December 2024 and ordered 12 months of Probation Service supervision after release.
