Man who trespassed on two properties and altered the CCTV cameras is jailed

By Eimear Cotter, Irish Independent

A trespasser who went onto two properties and adjusted the CCTV so the cameras could not capture anything has been jailed for two months.

Dylan Mills (22) has had a difficult life, his lawyer said, and first started getting into trouble with gardaí when he was just nine years old.

Judge Stephanie Coggans convicted and sentenced Mills to two months in prison.

The defendant, with an address at Shangan Avenue, and previously Joseph Plunkett Tower, both in Ballymun, admitted counts of trespass at Carlton Court in Swords on December 3, 2024.

A garda witness told Balbriggan District Court that Mills entered two properties at Carlton Court and adjusted the CCTV cameras, so they did not capture anything.

The court heard Mills had 115 previous convictions, was serving a sentence and not due for release until January 2026.

Defence lawyer Annette Kealy said the defendant's father was shot dead when he was just two, and he never had a father figure in his life.

He looked up to his older brother, but he had his own difficulties, and Mills started getting into trouble from a very young age, from nine years old.

The defendant did not attend secondary school, and spent his teen years in and out of Oberstown, Ms Kealy said, asking the judge to be as lenient as possible.
