A 35-year-old man was sentenced to four years in prison for sexually assaulting his partner. Judge Melanie Greally said the sentence was to be served from the day of the hearing. The proceedings were reported on 11 December 2018.

He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to sexually assaulting the woman at a Dublin house on 14 April 2016. The report said he orally raped and digitally penetrated her while she was sleeping.

He had previously pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping the same woman in 2010 and attempting to anally rape her in 2011 at their Dublin home. In July 2018, Mr Justice McDermott imposed an eight-year sentence for those offences, suspending the final 18 months on conditions.

Those conditions required probation supervision, completion of a sex offenders treatment programme and offence-focused work, and addressing alcohol and addiction issues.
