This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A man who cannot be named for legal reasons has pleaded not guilty to three rape charges, one sexual assault charge and one attempted rape charge at the Central Criminal Court, in a trial reported on 8 April 2021. The alleged offences concern a woman in his Dublin home between 1 and 3 December 2017.

The complainant told the jury she met the accused through a Dublin mosque’s marriage service after seeking asylum in Ireland. She denied defence suggestions that she joined the ceremony or pursued the relationship to secure residency.

The defence also questioned her about an International Protection Office decision and later permission to remain on humanitarian grounds. She said she trusted the accused and believed they were getting to know each other.

The trial was continuing when the report was published.
