Luke Cummins was jailed for three years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for possession of drugs for sale or supply. The proceedings were reported on 14 February 2021.

Cummins pleaded guilty to possessing drugs for sale or supply at his home in Clondalkin on 2 February 2019. Gardaí, acting on confidential information, searched the house under warrant and found cannabis herb in several places.

The seized cannabis weighed about four kilogrammes and had an estimated street value of €75,760, according to prosecutor Sinead McMullen BL. Cummins accepted responsibility when he returned, saying he owed about €8,000 to drug dealers after daily cannabis use.

Cummins said the dealers had threatened him and his family with guns and death. Vincent Heneghan SC, defending, said Cummins was afraid and had held the drugs for six to eight weeks; he also said Cummins had since sought treatment for his drug use.

Judge Martin Nolan accepted that Cummins’ remorse was genuine and sincere, noted the serious consequences for his family, and imposed a three-year prison term.
