Luke Connors received a 16-month sentence, with the final 12 months suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 31 January 2018, after pleading guilty to deception involving an 89-year-old woman’s €400 withdrawal. The offence occurred in Tallaght on 25 November 2016.

Connors had persuaded Mary Doherty that he needed money to repair her sister’s roof, then walked with her to a bank. Gardaí used CCTV footage to identify him, according to the report.

The court ordered that €700 brought by Connors be passed to the injured party. He had 11 previous convictions, while the defence cited his early guilty plea, alcohol problems and depression.
