Liudmyla Budash was jailed for money laundering, receiving a four-and-a-half-year sentence with no suspended portion from the Court of Appeal in its judgment dated 4 February 2025.
The court quashed her earlier sentence after finding that the three-and-a-half-year headline term and resulting two-year sentence, including nine months suspended, were unduly lenient. It set a seven-year headline sentence, reduced by two years and six months for mitigation.
The offence occurred in Temple Bar, Dublin, on 12 April 2024. Budash had pleaded guilty to one money-laundering count after being found with €491,955 in cash in a suitcase.
The Court of Appeal also ordered confiscation of the money. It said the seriousness of the offending reflected the amount involved and Budash’s role.
