Lisa Lee remanded as judge considers suspended sentence

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Lisa Lee was remanded in custody after declining a detox and residential treatment programme, while Mr Justice Tony Hunt considered how much of her suspended sentence to reactivate. The proceedings were reported on 9 April 2024.

Her barrister, Ronan Munro SC, said the prospect of residential care filled Lee with panic and that she had acknowledged the judge’s compassion. Mr Justice Hunt had offered her a choice between detox followed by intensive residential care and prison. He said she was due to appear again on 19 April 2024.

In 2022, a jury convicted Lee of discarding a knife used by Noel Lennon, knowing or believing he had caused serious harm to Isaac Horgan on 29 March 2021 at Spring Garden Lane in Dublin. She had denied the charge. The charge was changed during the trial after it was established that Horgan died after Lee disposed of the knife.

On 12 May 2023, Mr Justice Hunt sentenced Lee to four years in prison, suspending the final two years on condition that she keep the peace and be of good behaviour for three years after release. She was also required to work with probation services after release.

The April report said Lee had been charged with Public Order Act and Misuse of Drugs Act offences since her release and had twice been found with stolen mobile phones. Probation officer Niamh O’Connor said Lee had engaged only at a surface level with the service.

This case may have concluded differently. The outcome has not yet been confirmed by a public source we could find.
