Liam McGran received a three-year sentence, suspended in full for three years, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 6 May 2015. He pleaded guilty to attempting to rob an escort and possessing an imitation firearm at Harcourt Green, Charlemont Street, Dublin, on 7 October 2013.
The court heard that McGran threatened the woman with rape while demanding money, but she recognised the imitation pistol and fought him off. Judge Mary Ellen Ring cited his co-operation, early guilty plea and lack of previous convictions when suspending the sentence.
