Liam Brannigan pleads not guilty to conspiracy to murder

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Liam Brannigan, of Bride Street, Dublin 8, was charged at the Special Criminal Court with conspiring to murder Gary Hanley at a location within the State between 15 September and 6 November 2017. He pleaded not guilty. The proceedings were reported on 24 October 2019.

His defence argued that secret recordings from listening devices placed on cars should be excluded because evidence linking the devices, vehicles and recordings was incomplete. Giollaíosa Ó Lideadha SC also challenged the authorisations for the devices.

Mr Justice Paul Coffey, presiding with Judge Sinead Ní Chulacháin and Judge James Faughnan, said the court would endeavour to rule on the application to exclude audio recordings and CCTV.
