Leroy Dumbrell was sentenced to seven years, with the final year suspended, for violent disorder and threatening to kill or cause serious harm to a garda at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 28 April 2016. The violent disorder involved an assault in Ballymun, Dublin, during which he stamped on a man’s leg.

Judge Karen O’Connor imposed three years for the violent disorder and a consecutive four-year term for the threat to Detective Garda Ronan McMorrow. The suspended year was conditional on 12 months’ engagement with the Probation Service and two years of good behaviour.

The court heard that Dumbrell had threatened the detective and referred to details of his personal car. The judge described the threats as aggressive and containing sinister elements, while taking account of his serious offending history, young children, supportive girlfriend and rehabilitation efforts.
