Lee Swift was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to five years for two counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery, with the final 18 months suspended on conditions. The proceedings were reported on 21 July 2022.

Swift pleaded guilty. The offences took place between 4 and 8 August 2021 at a Centra on Kimmage Road Lower in Terenure, where €455 in cash and more than €2,400 in cigarettes and tobacco were taken during three raids.

The report said Swift threatened staff with a knife and later lunged at responding gardaí with one. Defence counsel Sarah Connolly BL said he had chronic drug-abuse issues linked to a troubled childhood and the death of his girlfriend in a car accident while she was four months pregnant with their child.

Judge Nolan said the crimes were relatively serious and noted Swift’s long offending history and previous opportunities.
