Lee Byrne and Sam Garvey were sentenced by Judge Duffy to two and a half years' imprisonment for robbery on 15 December 2025, with the final 18 months suspended.
Both men had pleaded guilty to a count of robbery arising from the taking of a mobile phone on Phibsborough Road, Dublin, on 1 October 2022. The proceedings were reported on 15 December 2025.
The court heard that the victim was assaulted and intimidated during the robbery. Byrne said in interview that he played a minor role and denied hitting the victim, while Garvey said he had bought the phone from another person and did not admit being at the scene.
The sentence followed a 12-month adjournment after the case was first heard. Judge Duffy cited fresh convictions and said the passage of time showed she could not place trust in either man. A condition of the suspended portion was engagement with the Probation Service.
