Le Wang, 42, was given a suspended 16-month sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on May 16, 2024. He pleaded guilty to harassing a foreign student for three months between December 2022 and March 2023.
Judge Martin Nolan ordered Wang not to communicate with or about the injured party in any way for 10 years. The judge described Wang’s behaviour as disgraceful, but said he did not deserve a longer stay in prison.
Judge Nolan said Wang had filmed the woman twice while she showered and was attempting to film her a third time when she noticed his phone. After she raised the incident, Wang sent messages threatening to damage her reputation if she made a big deal of what had happened. Garda Paul Kane agreed with defence counsel that there was no suggestion the images or videos had been shared with anyone else.
Wang later tried to contact the woman repeatedly. After 18 attempted conversations, the harassment ended on March 11, 2023.
