Kirstie McGrath and Niamh Mulreany were acquitted of resisting mandatory hotel quarantine at Dublin District Court on 15 April 2025. They were arrested at Dublin Airport after returning from Dubai.
The women had pleaded not guilty at a contested hearing. Judge John Hughes dismissed the case after finding that the prosecution had not shown they were told that failing to comply could bring criminal conviction and penalties.
The ruling followed the Supreme Court’s dismissal of their constitutional challenge in September, which had allowed the criminal proceedings to continue.
