Kevin Cradden jailed for sexual assault of sleeping woman

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Kevin Cradden was jailed for sexual assault on 23 May 2023, when Judge Orla Crowe imposed a three-year sentence with the final 18 months suspended. The registered reports do not name the court.

Cradden pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault at a house in Dublin on 31 May 2021. The proceedings were reported on 23 May 2023 and again on 30 May 2023.

The sentence was reduced from a four-year headline sentence after mitigating factors were considered. Conditions included engagement with the Probation Service for two years after release and abstaining from alcohol.

The reports said the sleeping woman woke to find someone kissing her and touching her under her underwear. Garda Daniel Hanlon said there was no suggestion that she had encouraged Cradden. In mitigation, Karl Moran BL said Cradden was remorseful, had no memory of the incident and had consumed substantial amounts of alcohol. Garda Hanlon accepted that the offence was out of character; the reports also noted Cradden had no previous convictions and had not come to garda attention since.
