Kevin Coughlan convicted of manslaughter after murder appeal

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Kevin Coughlan was convicted of manslaughter by the Court of Appeal, reported on 29 July 2015. The case concerned the death of Francis Greene at Steamboat Quay in Limerick between 28 and 29 November 2009.

The court had quashed Coughlan’s murder conviction after finding his trial unsatisfactory because evidence about the cause of death changed during the hearing. It found that he could have been convicted of manslaughter and entered that conviction instead.

Coughlan was due to be sentenced at the Central Criminal Court, but the matter was listed for 5 October after he was not produced for the July hearing.
