Kerry GAA challenges refusal of stadium investment

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Kerry GAA challenged the refusal of its stadium investment application at the High Court, with a hearing due on 11 October 2024. The case concerns redevelopment of Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney under the Immigrant Investor Programme.

The report said investors had pledged €17.2 million, while a further 25 investors were ready to contribute €10 million. Kerry GAA had also identified potential investors associated with another €11.6 million.

The Department refused the application, saying the lead investor had to be new and could not transfer from another project. Kerry GAA argued the rule was absent from the scheme guidelines and had not previously been applied.

The report also said similar actions by sporting and voluntary bodies were before the High Court. It gives no later outcome for Kerry GAA’s challenge.
