Google Ireland’s challenge to the Data Protection Commission’s inquiry was partly successful at the High Court, in a ruling on 11 October 2024.
Mr Justice Anthony Barr ordered the inquiry notice cancelled as it related to the Czech complaint, because the complainant had not created a Google account and her data had not been processed. He found the DPC had jurisdiction to investigate the other five complaints, which concern Google’s sign-up process and personal data consent.
