Karl Vogelaar has robbery appeal dismissed

By Saoirse Doyle

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Karl Vogelaar had his robbery conviction appeal dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 25 March 2021.

The convictions followed two bookmakers’ robberies in Drogheda, where €1,600 and €1,735 were taken.

Vogelaar was convicted at Dundalk Circuit Court on 9 July 2019 and sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.

His lawyers argued that DNA on black leggings did not directly link him to the crimes.

Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy said the DNA, alongside robbery-linked items, strengthened the prosecution case and provided sufficient evidence for a conviction.
