The High Court ordered the extradition of Kane Hull to the UK on 28 February 2022 to face trial over an alleged fatal stabbing in Carlisle. Ms Justice Caroline Biggs made the order.
Hull and Liam Porter were accused of the murder or manslaughter of Ryan Kirkpatrick, who was fatally stabbed at Carlyle’s Court, Carlisle, on 18 September 2021. The warrant alleged that Hull was captured on CCTV stabbing Kirkpatrick up to four times.
Tom Horan BL, for Hull, had argued that the extradition warrant lacked clarity about the number and nature of the offences. The judge said murder and manslaughter were presented as direct alternatives that a UK trial jury might have to consider. She said the UK had clarified the accusations after the High Court requested more information, and that corresponding offences could be found in Irish law.
On 18 February 2022, the High Court ordered Porter’s surrender. The judge said it was alleged that Porter had assisted Hull in the stabbing by calling him to alert him to Kirkpatrick’s presence. The UK also alleged Porter was present when a vehicle was burned out after the stabbing.
Hull was remanded in custody for at least 15 days, with a further period not exceeding 10 days, to allow time for extradition arrangements.
