Josh Conlon given suspended sentence over Dublin attack

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Josh Conlon was given a three-year sentence, suspended in full, for his involvement in an attack on a woman and her partner at their Dublin apartment on 11 November 2021. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him on 8 February 2023.

The suspension was conditional on Conlon being of good behaviour, remaining under probation supervision for a year and obeying all the rules. Judge Nolan said Conlon had a much lesser role in the serious assault and that he did not think Conlon expected Paul Clarke to scald the woman. The judge also noted Conlon’s youth and lack of previous convictions.

The report said Conlon and Clarke had arrived to collect €7,000 worth of cannabis that had gone missing. Clarke ordered Conlon to boil a kettle and poured boiling water over the woman. Conlon also hit her partner.

On 7 February 2023, Judge Nolan jailed Clarke for four years and three months. Craig Kelly was sentenced to five months in prison for his role in a second attack, with time already served to be taken into account.
