Jonathan Moles was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in jail at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 31 January 2024. The proceedings were reported on 31 January 2024.
Moles pleaded guilty to sexual assault and assault causing harm to a woman at a flat on Botanic Avenue, Dublin 9, on 8 August 2020. He also admitted assault causing harm to a man on Capel Street on 8 July 2019, and pleaded guilty to attacking and robbing another man in the city centre on 18 November 2019.
The court heard that the Capel Street victim suffered a fractured eye socket after Moles punched him. On arrest, Moles told gardaí he had spent most of the day drinking and could not remember committing the offence.
Garda Conor Mannion told the court that the second attack involved a co-accused. Moles punched the man, who then felt hands in his coat pocket taking his phone, watch and €2,250. Moles told gardaí he had been pushing the victim away from the woman.
During the 2020 incident, Moles pushed the woman from a first-floor balcony. She suffered a broken ankle and bruising to her arms and face. He later admitted drinking with her and another man but denied the offences.
Judge Martin Nolan said Moles had a violent disposition and deserved a long prison term. The judge accepted that he had pleaded guilty, expressed remorse and taken steps to change.
