Jonathan Keogh murder trial hears DNA evidence dispute

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jonathan Keogh’s murder trial heard evidence before a three-judge court on 5 July 2018 about ear plugs seized for DNA evidence.

A detective sergeant said Gardaí arranged for the ear plugs to be seized after Keogh used and discarded them during his extradition flight from the UK. The defence argued that the seizure breached Keogh’s constitutional rights, while the prosecution said the ear protection was optional rather than necessary. The court was due to rule on whether the ear plugs could be admitted.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
