Jonathan Dargan was sentenced to six years in prison, with the final six months suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, as reported on 29 January 2020. He was convicted of manslaughter after punching Patrick Mullally on Harold’s Cross Road, Dublin, in the early hours of 6 March 2016.
Dargan was also convicted of assaulting Shane Cunningham. The court heard that Mullally fell, struck his head and died in hospital the following day. The judge said Dargan’s genuine remorse and good character were mitigating factors, while the use of force against a defenceless man and alcohol-fuelled anger aggravated the offence.
