John Morley was sentenced to three years, with the final year suspended, for assaulting a refuse collector at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 1 August 2017. The assault occurred in Virginia Park, Finglas, after a bin was blacklisted for non-payment. Morley had pleaded guilty, and Judge Melanie Greally said alcohol did not justify his actions.

The court heard that Morley was one of three men who attacked the Greyhound Recycling worker. His suspended year was conditional on taking part in victim-awareness work.
