John Costello was jailed for three years for possessing ammunition at the Special Criminal Court, reported on 15 February 2017. Costello, of Glenashrone, Abbeyfeale, was found with 782 rounds, including .38 special and 9mm ammunition, after his former partner contacted Gardaí following a domestic dispute. He admitted possessing the ammunition, but did not tell Gardaí its origin or who owned it. The court was told Gardaí believed it was being stored in the context of subversive IRA activity. Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the amount was significant, although no firearm accompanied it.
