Jimmy Fitzpatrick described his severe burns and his friend Liam Dunne’s death at Dublin District Coroner’s Court, reported on 17 November 2023. Fitzpatrick said Dunne reassured him while they were both in intensive care after the Stardust fire.

Fitzpatrick spent more than three and a half months in hospital with third-degree burns. He said he could not reply because he was on a respirator, while Dunne told him they would get through it.

Dunne, aged 18, later died from his injuries. Fitzpatrick was among a group of Superquinn workers at the Stardust on 14 February 1981, when 48 young people died in the fire.
