Jenifer Devine avoids jail for withholding information about murder

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jenifer Devine avoided immediate custody after the Central Criminal Court sentenced her for withholding information about the murder of Michael Tormey. She received an 18-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, on condition she enter a bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

Judge Melanie Greally said the offence was connected to a murder and that Devine had helped her husband evade justice, but found an immediate custodial sentence was not necessary. The judge also considered evidence of Devine’s fear of her husband, her poor mental health and her role as sole carer to two young children.
