This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jason Spooner was jailed for four-and-a-half years, with the final 18 months suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 30 May 2019 for attempted robbery and possessing a crowbar to intimidate staff. The offences occurred at a Centra store in Hamptonwood, Finglas, on 25 February 2017.

The court heard Spooner threatened a pregnant employee with the crowbar while attempting to steal €300 worth of cigarettes. He pleaded guilty to both offences, and the judge reduced the sentence after considering mitigating factors including his father’s death.

Judge Karen O’Connor said the incident had been terrifying for the employee, whose victim-impact report described an ongoing fear of robbery at work. Spooner had 16 previous convictions, including road traffic, theft and public order offences.
