Jason Smith was jailed for three years for drugs offences at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 15 January 2025. He had agreed to collect drugs from a van in Dundrum after running up a debt linked to his Xanax addiction.

The drugs seized were valued at €143,697, including cocaine worth €21,612 and cannabis worth €119,219. Smith said he did not know the items he collected were drugs; the judge accepted that others had taken advantage of his debt.
