Jason Byrne’s appeal against his aggravated burglary conviction was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 26 June 2018.
The conviction arose from a trial concerning alleged gang-related offences in south-east Ireland during 2008 and 2009.
The court rejected arguments that accomplice evidence from a Witness Protection Programme participant was inadmissible or too unreliable to support the case.
It held that the trial judge had properly warned the jury about the dangers of relying on uncorroborated accomplice evidence and that Byrne had not shown his trial was unfair.
