Jason Burke received a one-year suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after an attack on his sisters following a dispute about a family holiday. The proceedings were reported on 13 February 2018.

Burke pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and criminal damage. The offences took place at his sisters’ home in Fettercairn, Tallaght, on 26 April 2016.

The report said Burke hit one sister on the shoulder with a hurley and pulled the other around the sitting room by her hair. He forced his way into the house, smashed a glass table and a mobile phone, and threatened both women.

Garda Stephen Gillespie told the court that the family were talking again and had booked the holiday. He agreed with defence counsel Marc Thompson that Burke was fully remorseful and was dealing with his alcohol problem.

Thompson submitted to Judge Martin Nolan that Burke had been unfit for interview after his arrest. The judge accepted that Burke had been drunk at the time and suspended the sentence for one year.
