Jaroslow Kilian was jailed for two years for two counts of assault causing harm and one count of assault at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Orla Crowe reduced a three-year headline sentence because of mitigating factors, including his severe and enduring mental illness. The sentence was backdated to 27 August, when he went into custody. Kilian pleaded guilty to the three charges, while three further counts were taken into consideration. The proceedings were reported on 15 June 2023.
The attacks occurred on a C4 bus travelling from Dublin to Celbridge, including at Lucan, and five passengers were assaulted. The report said Kilian had been deported in December 2021 and returned illegally to Ireland in February 2022. Defence counsel said he became violent after a man touched him while he was taking a selfie, and the court heard he had since received correct medication for schizophrenia. Kilian expressed remorse and understood that alcohol or drugs appeared to trigger his offending.
