Jamie Moonen was jailed for 13 months over threats to kill Dublin city councillor Malachy Steenson. He pleaded guilty to making a threat to a garda to kill or cause serious harm to another person. The offence occurred on May 15th, 2024. The proceedings were reported on November 6th, 2025.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that Moonen admitted making the threats and apologised. He said he did not mean what he said but appreciated that his words would have had an impact.

In his victim impact statement, Mr Steenson asked Judge Martin Nolan to consider a lenient sentence. Judge Nolan set a three-year headline sentence and reduced it to 13 months, taking account of mitigating factors including Moonen’s co-operation with gardaí and personal difficulties.
