This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

James Maughan was jailed for 14 months at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for breaching a suspended four-year sentence after dangerous driving, reported on 4 March 2024. Judge Pauline Codd imposed 14 months of that previously suspended sentence.

The District Court convicted Maughan of 16 offences relating to the incident on 8 February 2024, jailed him for nine months and disqualified him from driving for 20 years. The incident included a hit-and-run involving an off-duty garda and his child; no one was injured.

The breached sentence required good behaviour and included a lifelong driving disqualification. Judge Codd requested medical supervision after release, while the court heard that Maughan had schizophrenia, became homeless and was not accessing required medication.
