James Cronin received a two-year sentence, with the final nine months suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 18 October 2018 for threatening to damage a prison officer’s home. He had pleaded guilty to making the threat at Arbour Hill Prison in Dublin 7 on 16 October 2015.

Cronin had threatened to burn down the officer’s house after she would not serve him tobacco at the prison tuck shop. Judge Melanie Greally said the incident was at the lower end of the scale and noted his history of mental health issues.
