Irish publicans won a Commercial Court ruling on 5 February 2021 that their FBD business interruption policies covered losses caused by Covid-19.

The four test cases were brought by Hyper Trust Ltd, Aberken, Inn on Hibernian Way Ltd and Leinster Overview Concepts Ltd, trading as pubs in Dublin and Athlone.

The decision could allow more than 1,100 publicans insured with FBD to receive indemnities, while the insurer had argued its policies did not provide pandemic cover.
