Irish Ferries Ltd was fined €125,000 for a workplace safety breach at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 25 June 2015. The case followed the death of Stephen Bayfield, who was fatally injured by a mobile crane at the company’s Dublin Port terminal on 28 October 2011. Irish Ferries pleaded guilty to failing to provide safe walkways for people working at the terminal. The company had subcontracted stevedore operations to Scruttons (NI) Ltd. The Health and Safety Authority said separating pedestrians from mobile work equipment was essential to prevent similar accidents.
