Ion Nostas was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to money-laundering linked to the movement of €408,820 for an organised crime group. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that the offence took place at Rosemount Business Park, Blanchardstown, on November 22, 2021. The sentence was backdated to January 13, 2022.

Gardaí said surveillance showed Nostas and another person moving bags from a BMW to a Toyota. Officers later stopped the cars and recovered the cash, which had been vacuum-packed. Nostas told gardaí he had been asked to move money for €1,000 and had arranged for two others to be involved. The court heard he had no previous convictions and had pleaded guilty.

Judge Martin Nolan said the offence was too serious to avoid additional prison time. He set a headline sentence of six to eight years before taking mitigating factors into account and imposing the four-year term.
