Ian Doyle was resentenced for assault causing harm and threatening to kill at the Court of Appeal on 20 November 2025.
Doyle, 34, of Crumlin, committed the offences against his partner at her home in February 2023. The Court of Appeal found the original sentence too lenient and imposed five years’ imprisonment for the two counts, to run concurrently; the sentences are consecutive to the term he is serving in another matter.
The court said a headline sentence of seven years in custody was appropriate to reflect the overall gravity of the offending. The appeal followed a sentence of three years and six months, with the final six months suspended, imposed by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
