This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Ian Bailey’s extradition to France for Sophie Toscan du Plantier’s murder was rejected by the High Court on 12 October 2020. The court ruled that surrender remained prohibited under the European Arrest Warrant Act 2003.

Bailey was convicted in his absence by a Paris court in May 2019 and sentenced to 25 years. The Irish court said his guilt or innocence was not being decided in the extradition proceedings. The State was given time to seek leave to appeal, while Bailey remained on continuing bail.
